Hamburger Logo N&W Shirt


The Norfolk and Western Railway was a US Class One railroad formed by more than 200 railroad mergers between 1838 and 1982. It was headquartered in Roanoke, Virginia, for most of its 150-year existence. It became part of Norfolk Southern in 1982.  The railroad’s motto was "Precision Transportation.”   Best known for its streamlined passenger trains and coal hauling operations out of the mountains of Appalachia, the N&W also handled fast freight and operated over the flatlands of the Midwest.  The logo on this shirt, nicknamed the “hamburger or half-moon herald,” was used beginning in 1963 on black-painted equipment, and in 1966 on blue-painted equipment
